Mama Makeup Makeover/Beauty Basics 101

Last night I had the opportunity to do makeup on three lovely women for a "makeover party." With all of the hecticness, I was miraculously able to snap photos of two of the women, Becca & Maren. The photos are pretty so-so in quality, but you can still see the makeup application well enough :)

My goal was to do a look that the women would feel comfortable in. Sometimes it's just a matter of adding (or taking out) a couple of steps in a person's "every day" makeup routine to give them some WOW factor...

Finding the brow shape is always the trickiest part about doing someones makeup. Brows have the largest impact on a person's face. When they say that brows frame your face, they weren't kidding.

Becca's beauty regimen is typically fairly minimalist.  I did her full face, but she could probably revert to my "quick" makeup routine since she does not enjoy spending much time in the mirror. At the end of my post I will explain full face vs. quick face.

Maren's typical routine is also usually pretty quick. The main thing that we discussed was the importance of finding the right foundation/tinted moisturizer. It doesn't matter if you have strong pink tones in your skin, get a foundation that's on the yellow side of the spectrum.

Becca Harris, mother of two.

Maren Phillips, mother of four. (Before shot courtesy of facebook:)

Full face steps:

Washed & moisturized.

Step 1: Concealer
Step 2: Foundation
Step 3: Powder - smaller brush for eye area.
Step 4: Bronzer
Step 5: Blush in the apples of her cheeks
Step 6: Brow Shaping
Step 7: Eyeshadow
Step 8: Eyeliner
Step 9: Mascara
Step 10: Lipgloss

Quick face:

Washed & moisturized.

Step 1: Concealer
Step 2: Tinted moisturizer/foundation
Step 3: Powder - mandatory to help set
Step 4: Brows
Step 5: Eye liner
Step 6: Mascara

If you add bronzer and lip gloss to the quick face, you'll get the WOW and it takes like 2 extra seconds!

The quick face is non-optional and extremely critical to looking sharp in public. If you don't have any darkness around the eyes or blemishes, you can skip the concealer and just use a tinted moisturizer, lucky you... Even with great skin you still want to even it all out. It brightens the face and makes you look fresh.
