Do you remember all of the interesting things girls did with their makeup in junior high (me included)? I remember a boy turning to me and saying "Wow, your eyes look kind of... freaky." AH - My attempt at the oh so sophisticated "wing-tip" liquid liner approach was not quite there yet.

But really, what was I doing with that much DARK liner on my eyes at that age anyways? The beauty night party Bella's mom threw for her was in an attempt to spare her daughter, and her daughter's friends, from making some of the common junior high-girl mistakes.

All of these girls are either 11 or 12 years old. Some of them have started wearing a little makeup. Here is my opinion on what the makeup regimen of a girl this age should be:

- If she doesn't want to wear any makeup at all, that is fine! There's plenty of time later on.
- If she does want to start wearing makeup, have her read the following:

• Most girls at this age have flawless skin. No foundation or concealer is needed unless there's a small blemish that needs covering. A possible tinted moisturizer is an option. 
• Unless your hair is black, black makeup on a girl this age is a no-no. (I opted for black mascara on Bella because her hair is very dark and her lashes are already black, but she is wearing a plum-colored liner that is thin and very close to the lash line.)
• Light lip color, clear gloss, or even just chap stick is just fine. Avoid colors that are too bright. Your face has enough life. Dark colors will look clowny.
• A little blush is fine in the apples of the cheeks. 
• Using a golden bronzer is gorgeous if you want to have a little extra sparkle for a special occasion. Bella's mom busted out a warm, sparkle bronzer powder that looked amazing on the blondes, but still very natural.
• Brows: Only tweeze the strays. As long as your brow has a good shape to it, you are fine. The purpose of tweezing your brows is not to have skinny brows, but to give them shape. Most of the time, thicker is definitely better. 

We had an awesome time. I did quick demos on how to use a clampless curling iron. Each girl had on just a little eyeshadow, blush, lip gloss, and mascara. Some had a little eyeliner and the blondes had light brow powder on. Quick, easy, and stress-free. These are the last years of that totally natural, child-like beauty. ENJOY THEM ;)
